Santa Fe is committed to the bit

April 25, 2024

Santa Fe, pretty touristy. Good food, otherwise pretty mid. But Meow Wolf was 1000% my jam.

Even these loading docks on this new building are Pueblo Revival, which to me feels a bit silly. Santa Fe definitely has a style, and I can't decide if it should be commended or criticized. It's like a citywide HOA.

I (and many others) paid $5 to see this staircase. They say Joseph himself built it (as in "Jesus, Mary, and Joseph" Joseph). Just shows to go ya what good marketing can do.

Santa Fe is at 7,000 ft above sea level. I read somewhere that to help adjust to a higher altitude, you should increase your caloric intake. So I ordered a flight of churros.

I liked the hill to the Cross of the Martyrs. Easy climb and there were plaques about Santa Fe's history along the way and the view was nice.

Parks and cemeteries here are interesting. Basically dolled-up dirt lots since you can't really have big fields of grass in the middle of the desert.

Meow Wolf: House of Eternal Return

I LOVED this. $40 but worth every penny. Such a cool concept, and it was HUGE. Just when I thought I'd surely seen everything, I'd find an entirely new section to explore. You open a refrigerator and BOOM, secret passage. I still don't think I found everything. This is just a tiny sliver of what's there.

There's a narrative to unravel by looking through all the nooks and crannies. I'd need to go back to suss all of that out (which I totally want to do), but I sorta got the gist. I won't spoil any of it.

Unintentional selfie.

You can pay $2 extra for some special glasses, which make the world look like this:

There are 4 (soon to be 5) other Meow Wolf locations, and they're all different. I really want to check out the other ones now too.
