Independence, MO, and Kansas City

April 20, 2024

Didn't do a ton in KC. Had a MASSIVE headache from the previous night to the next day. Either went too hard on the Katy trail or the result of some questionable Subway I was forced to eat or both. Did the main things I wanted to though.

National Frontier Trails Museum

A nice museum awkwardly tucked away inside a government building. Lots of info and personal stories and items from frontier trails. Very few other people, which is a shame, because it was a legitimately good museum.

There's an exhibit where you can pack your own Oregon trail wagon. I think I did alright.
"Proverbially abundant" is my new favorite phrase.

WWI Museum

Nice view. Cool architecture. Lots of big old guns and other memorabilia. You probably won't learn much about WWI that you didn't know already, but still cool to see real stuff from the war. One of the few big attractions in KC so it was a bit pricey and very crowded.

Slowly realizing my preferred aesthetic is "looks like a video game level".
"Yo whaddup MTV, welcome to my crib."

KC BBQ

Went to Q39 to try some KC BBQ. Joe's is more famous, but Q39 wins all the trophies so I went there. If I had more time, I would've gone to both. Q39 was definitely a satisfying meat experience.

A happy face of meat.

Headache prevented me from seeing much of KC. From what I saw, it seemed like an alright place. Pain has subsided so onward and upward.
